PostHeaderIcon Winter's Bride

This tutorial was written by me on 15 November 2008.  Any similarities to other tutorials is purely coincidental.
 
Supplies Needed:
 
Tube of choice.  I am using the gorgeous artwork of Maxine Gadd.  If you wish to use her artwork, you must purchase a license with MPT
 
Scrapkit Winter Chill by Baby Cake's Scraps.  If you wish to purchase this amazing kit, you can here.  Thank you Lynne!
 
Template 39 made by me, which you can download here
 
Mask UFMask 42 by sunf.  You can download this mask plus other great ones here
 
Font of choice.  I used Lyssa (pay font)
 
Gradient mtd silver (put this in your gradients folder)

Eyecandy Impact Gradient Glow
 
Eyecandy Nature Fire
 
Animation Shop (opt)
 
 
 
 
Let's get started!  Open up my template.  Duplicate by holding down (SHIFT+D).  Close the original.  Delete the credits layer. 
 
Highlight the vertical rectangle layer.  Go to selections > select all.  Selections > float.  Selections > defloat.  Open up a paper of choice from the kit.  Resize by 69%, smartsize.  Copy and paste onto your canvas.  Go to selections > invert.  Hit delete on your keyboard.  Deselect (CTRL+D)  Give the layer a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 60, Blur 8.00.  Delete the vertical rectangle template layer.
 
Highlight the horizontal rectangle layer.  Select, float and defloat.  Paste the same paper as before onto your canvas. (it should still be on your clipboard)  Selections > invert.  Hit delete and deselect.  Give the layer a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 60, Blur 8.00.  Delete the horizontal rectangle template layer.
 
Highlight the black brackety shape layer.  Select, float and defloat.  Open up a paper of choice from the kit.  Resize, 69%, smartsize.  Copy and paste onto your canvas.  Selections > invert.  Hit delete on your keyboard.  Deselect.  Give the layer a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 60, Blur 10.00.  Delete the black brackety template layer.
 
Highlight your small snowflake 1 layer.  Go to adjust > add/remove noise > add noise:  random and monochrome checked, value set at 8.  Apply gradient glow with a color of choice ( I used color #b6b7d0) with the following settings:

Repeat the above steps with the remaining snowflake layers.  Position them to your liking.
 
Highlight the gray bracket layer.  Select, float and defloat. Open up a paper of choice from the scrapkit.  Resize by 69%, smartsize.  Copy and paste onto your canvas.  Selections > invert.  Hit delete.  Deselect.  Give the layer a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 60, Blur 8.00.  Delete the gray bracket template layer.
 
Highlight the bracket ice frame.  Apply noise with the same settings as before.  Apply gradient glow with the same settings as earlier.
 
Highlight the scallop circle layer.  Select, float and defloat.  Open up a paper of choice from the kit.  Resize by 69%, smartsize.  Copy and paste as a new layer onto your canvas.  Selections > invert.  Hit delete on your keyboard.  Do NOT deselect.
 
Open up your tube.  Resize, bicubic if necessary.  Copy and paste onto your canvas.  Position the tube within the selection to your liking.  Grab your eraser tool, size set at 30, opacity 90.  Erase the part of the tube that you don't want hanging out of the frame.  Deselect.  Delete the white scalloped circle.  Give your tube a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 60, Blur 10.00.  Highlight the scalloped circle and give it the same drop shadow you gave your tube.
 
Highlight the snowflake wreathe 1 layer.  (you can colorize if you like)  Give the layer a drop shadow of H 1, V 0, Opacity 50, Blur 2.00.  Repeat with the snowflake wreathe 2 layer.
 
Open up a candle from the kit.  Resize by 15%, smartsize.  Copy and paste as a new layer onto your canvas.  Apply noise, same settings as before.  Give the candle a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 50, Blur 4.00.  Duplicate the candle.  Go to image > mirror.  Position them like my tag above. 
 
Open up the ribbon wreathe.  Resize by 30%, smartsize.  Copy and paste onto your canvas.  Apply noise (same settings).  Give the ribbon wreathe the same drop shadow you gave the candles.  Position as in my tag above.
 
Highlight your white background.  Open up a snowflake of choice.  Resize by 30%, smartsize.  Copy and paste onto your canvas.  Give it a drop shadow of H 1, V 0, Opacity 50, Blur 2.00.  Duplicate the snowflake.  Position them to your liking.
 
Highlight your white background.  Find the gradient in your drop down menu in your materials palette.  Add a new raster layer.  Floodfill your new layer with the gradient.   Apply the UF Mask 42 with the following settings:
 
Source Luminance
 
Fit to Layer
 
Hide all mask
 
Delete the mask, answer yes to the pop up box and merge the group.  Apply noise to the mask : Random and monochrome checked, value set at 30.  Give the mask a drop shadow of H 1and V 0, Opacity 30, Blur 2.00.
 
Hide your white background and merge your visible layers together.
 
Crop and resize to your liking.
 
Add your copyright info, watermark and text.  If you are not animating, save as JPG or PNG.
 
If you are animating, grab your freehand selection tool.  Type point to point, mode: add, feather set at 0.00.
 
Select a small area, from the base of the wick of your candle in the shape of a flame like this:

Add a new raster layer.  Apply Eyecandy Nature Fire with the following settings:

I changed my colors to slate blue, white and gray:

Deselect.  Highlight the flame layer.  Apply noise:
 
Random
 
Monochrome
 
Value 20
 
Copy merged.  Open up animation shop.  Paste as a new animation in AS.
 
Back to PSP.  Go to edit > undo noise.  Apply noise to the flames again, but change the value to 30.  Copy merged. 
 
Paste after frame 1 in AS.
 
Back to PSP.  Go to edit > undo noise.  Apply noise again, but change the value to 40.  Copy merged.  Paste after frame 2 in AS.
 
Back to PSP.  Go to edit > undo noise.  Apply noise, changing the value to 33.  Copy merged and paste after frame 3 in animation shop.  Select all frames (CTRL+A)  Change the frame properties to 15.
 
Optimize and save as gif.
