Mermaid Princess

This tutorial was written by me on 28 April 2009. Any similarities to other tutorials is purely coincidental.
Supplies Needed:
2 tubes of choice. I am using the elegant artwork of Olivia. I got this tube when CILM was still open. You can find her artwork at CDO now.

Image of choice.
Font of choice. I used P22 Corinthia. (pay font)

Animation Shop (opt)

Ok! Let's get started! Open up my template. Duplicate by holding down shift + d. Close the original. Delete the credit info layer.
Highlight the rectangle layer. Go to selections > select all. Selections > float. Selections > defloat. Open up a paper from the kit. Resize by 75%, smartsize. Copy and paste as a new layer onto your canvas. Go to selections > invert. Hit delete on your keyboard. Deselect. (CTRL+D) Give the layer a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 70, Blur 8.00. Delete the gray rectangle layer.
Highlight the 3 rectangles layer. Select, float and defloat. Open up another paper from the kit. Resize, 75%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Selections > invert. Hit delete and deselect. Give the layer a drop shadow of H and V 1, Opacity 65, Blur 2.00. Now give it a drop shadow of H and V -1, Opacity 45, Blur 2.00. Delete hte gray 3 rectangles layer.
Highlight the swirl layer. Select, float and defloat. Open up a paper from the kit. Resize by 75%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Selections > invert. Hit delete and deselect. Give it a drop shadow of H 2, V 0, Opacity 55, Blur 2.00. Delete the dark gray swirl layer.
Highlight the middle shape layer. Select, float and defloat. Open up a paper from the kit. Resize, 75%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Selections > invert. Hit delete. Don't deselect.
Open up your image of choice. Resize as necessary, smartsize. Copy and paste as a new layer onto your canvas. Position to your liking within the selection. Hit delete. Deselect. Change the blend mode of the image to Hard Light. Delete the dark gray middle shape fill layer.
Highlight the outer shape fill. Select, float and defloat. Open up another paper from the kit. Resize by 75%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Selections > invert. Hit delete and deselect. Delete the gray outer shape fill layer.
Highlight the shape layer. Select, float and defloat. Open up a paper from the kit. Resize, 75%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Selections > invert. Hit delete and deselect. Give the layer a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 75, Blur 10.00. Delete the black shape layer.
Highlight the circles fill layer. Select, float and defloat. Open up a paper from the kit. Resize, 75%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Selections > invert. Hit delete. Don't deselect.
Open up your first tube of choice. Resize, if necessary, bicubic. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Position it within one of the circle selections, to your liking. Hit delete. Deselect. Give the tube a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 60, Blur 5.00. Lower the opacity of the tube to 50. Duplicate the tube. Go to image > mirror. Delete the circles fill layer.
Highlight the circles layer. Select, float and defloat. Open up another paper. Resize by 75%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Selections > invert. Hit delete and deselect. Give the layer a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 65, Blur 6.00. Delete the gray circles layer.
Open up the floral butterfly from the kit. Resize by 25%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Give it a drop shadow of H -2, V 0, Opacity 55, Blur 3.00. Duplicate. Mirror the duplicated butterfly. Duplicate the original and mirrored butterfly one time, for a total of 4 butterflies. Arrange them as in my tag above.
Open up the fan from the kit. Resize by 20%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Go to image > free rotate. Rotate left by 25.00, both boxes unchecked. Give it a drop shadow of H -1, V 0, Opacity 45, Blur 2.00. Duplicate. Go to image > mirror. Position the fans on the circles to your liking.
Open up the tied keys from the kit. Resize by 20%, smartsize. Give them a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 45, Blur 3.00. Duplicate. Go to image > mirror. Position them as in my tag above.
Open up foil flower of choice. Resize by 15%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Give it a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 45, Blur 3.00. Duplicate. Go to image > mirror. Position them a the tops of the keys.
Open up a lace bow from the kit. Resize by 25%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Give it a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 50, Blur 3.00. Position to your liking.
Open up a lace of choice. Resize by 45%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Give it a drop shadow of H 1, V 0, Opacity 45, Blur 2.00. Arrange behind the rectangle.
Open up the gems from the kit. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Give them a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 50, Blur 3.00. Duplicate. Go to image > mirror. Then, image > flip. Position them as in my tag above.
Open up the BCS Flowers from the kit. Resize by 20%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Give it a drop shadow of H 1, V 0, Opacity 45, Blur 2.00. Duplicate. Go to image > mirror. Duplicate the mirrored flowers. Go to image > flip. Duplicate the flipped flowers. Go to image > mirror. Arrange them as in my tag above.
Add any other embellishments of your choosing.
Highlight your white background. Open up a paper from the kit. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Apply Vix Mask 277 with the following settings:
Source Luminance
Fit to Canvas
Hide all mask
Delete the mask, answer yes and merge the group. Resize by 95%, smartsize. Go to adjust > blur > gaussian blur. Apply with a radius of 10.
Open up another paper from the kit. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Apply the mask, same settings. Resize by 90%, smartsize. Give it a drop shadow of H 1, V -1, Opacity 60, Blur 2.00.
Open up your main tube. Resize, if necessary, bicubic. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Arrange to your liking. Give it a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 70, Blur 10.00.
Crop and resize to your liking.
Add your copyright info, watermark and your text.
If you are not animating, save as JPG or PNG.
If you are animating, highlight your blurred mask layer. Apply Eyecandy 5 Nature Ripples with the following settings:
Copy merged. Open up Animation Shop. Paste as a new animation in AS.
Back to Paint Shop Pro. Go to edit > undo ripples. Apply ripples again, but this time hit the random seed button. Copy merged. Paste after your current frame in AS.
Repeat the above steps 3 more times for a total of 5 frames.
Select all frames. (CTRL+A) Change the frame properties to 20.
Optimize and save as gif.
