PostHeaderIcon Mele Kalikimaka

This tutorial was written by me on 10 December 2008.  Any similarities to other tutorials is purely coincidental. 
 
Supplies Needed:
 
Tube of choice.  I am using the awesome artwork of Rion Vernon (Pinuptoons)  I got this tube when CILM was still open.  You can find him at CDO now.
 
Scrapkit.  I used the tropical goodness of a kit called Mele Kalikimaka by Alane.  If you wish to purchase this scrap you can here.  Thank you, Alane!!

Becky_Mask009.  Unfortantely, her site is now close.  You can get it here
 
Font of choice.  I used Copperplate Gothic Bold (pay font)
 
Animation Shop (opt)
 
 
No other supplies needed

Ok!  Let's get started.  Open up Ali's Template.  Duplicate by holding down shift + d.  Close the original. 
 
Delete the credit info layer.  Go to Image > Canvas Size.  Change the canvas size to 700 x 700.  Add a new raster layer.  Floodfill the new layer with white.  Arrange > send to bottom. 
 
Highlight the raster 1 layer.  Go to selections > select all.  Selections > float.  Selections > defloat.  Open up a paper of choice from the kit.  Resize by 15%, smartsize.  Copy and paste as a new layer onto your canvas.  Go to selections > invert.  Hit delete on your keyboard.  Deselect (CTRL+D)  Delete the black rectangle layer.
 
Highlight the raster 2 layer.  Select, float and defloat.  Open up another paper from the kit.  Resize by 15%, smartsize.  Copy and paste as a new layer onto your canvs.  Selections >invert.  Hit delete on your keyboard.  Deselect.  Give the layer a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 60, Blur 8.00.  Delete the white rectangle frame.
 
Highlight the raster 5 layer.  Select, float and defloat.  Open up a paper of choice from the kit.  Resize by 15%, smartsize.  Copy and paste as a new layer onto your canvas.  Selections > invert.  Hit delete and deselect.  Give it a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 60, Blur 6.00.  Delete the gray flower.
 
Highlight the copy of raster 5 layer.  Repeat the same steps as you did with the raster 5 layer using the same paper.
 
Move both flower layers towards the end of the horizontal rectangle (see my tag for reference)
 
Highlight the raster 3 layer.   Select float and defloat.  Open up a paper of choice from the kit.  Resize by 15%, smartsize.  Copy and paste as a new layer onto your canvas.  Selections > invert.  Hit delete on your keyboard.  Do NOT deselect! 
 
Open up one of the hawaiipics from the kit.  Copy and paste as a new layer onto your canvas.  Position to your liking within the selection.  Hit delete and deselect.  Change the blend mode of the picture to overlay.  Delete the thin long black rectangle layer.
 
Highlight the raster 4 layer.  Select, float and defloat.  Open up a paper of choice.  Resize by 15%, smartsize.  Copy and paste onto your canvas.  Selections > invert.  Hit delete.  Deselect.  Give the layer a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 60, Blur 8.00.  Delete the white frame layer underneath it.
 
Open up wreathe 2 from the kit.  Resize by 15%, smartsize.  Copy and paste as a new layer onto your canvas.  Give it a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 60, Blur 6.00.  Duplicate the wreathe.  Position them to your liking in the big rectangle. 
 
Open up a wrap ribbon of choice.  Resize by 10%, smartsize.  Copy and paste as a new layer onto your canvas.  Give it a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 60, Blur 6.00.  Go to image > free rotate.  Rotate left by 35.00, both boxes unchecked.  Position in the left upper corner of your big rectangle frame.  Grab your freehand selection tool, type point to point, feather set at 0.00.  Carefully select around the areas that you don't want hanging over the frame.  Hit delete.  Deselect.
 
Open up a hawaiian ball of choice.  Resize by 3%, smartsize.  Position to your liking on the big rectangle frame.  Give it a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 50, Blur 5.00. 
 
Open up a bow that matches your ball.  Resize by 3%, smartsize.  Copy and paste onto your canvas.  Give it the same drop shadow you gave your ball.  Position at the top of the ball.
 
Open up a snowflake of choice.  Resize by 2%, smartsize.  Copy and paste onto your canvas.  Give it a drop shadow of H 1, V 0, Opacity 50, Blur 2.00.  Duplicate the snowflake.  Go to image > mirror.  Position to your liking on the big rectangle frame.
 
Open up another snowflake of choice.  Resize by 4%, smartsize.  Copy and paste onto your canvas.  Give it the same drop shadow you gave your previous snowflake.  Duplicate the snowflake.  Go to image > mirror.  Position the snowflakes to your liking on the small horizontal rectangle frame.
 
Open up a pair of flip flops of choice.  Resize by 3%, smartsize.  Copy and paste as a new layer onto  your canvas.  Give it a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 50, Blur 5.00.  Duplicate the flip flops.  Go to image > mirror.  Position them to your liking on your horizontal frame.
 
Open up the dark green holly from the kit.  Resize by 10%, smartsize.  Copy and paste onto your canvas.  Give it a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 60, Blur 6.00.  Duplicate the holly.  Go to image > mirror.  Position them to your liking.
 
Highlight your white background.  Open up an xmas tree of choice.  Resize by 25%, smartsize.  Copy and paste as a new layer onto your canvas.  Give the tree a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 60, Blur 10.00.  Duplicate the tree and mirror.  Position them as in my tag above.
 
Open up your tube.  Resize as necessary, bicubic.  Copy and paste onto your canvas.  Give your tube a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 60, Blur 12.00.  Position to your liking. 
 
Add any other embellishments of your choosing.
 
Hide your white background and merge your visible layers.
 
Resize your merged layer by 85%, bicubic.
 
Unhide and highlight your white background.  Open up a paper of choice from the kit.  Resize by 15%, smartsize.  Copy and paste onto your canvas.  Apply Becky_Mask009 with the following settings:
 
Source Luminance
 
Fit to Layer
 
Hide all Mask
 
Delete your mask on your layer palette.  Answer yes to the pop up box and merge the group.  Duplicate your mask layer and mirror it.  Arrange the mask layers to your liking.  Hide your tag layer and your white background and merge your mask layers together.
 
Crop and resize to your liking.
 
Add your copyright info, watermark and text.  If you are not animating, then save as JPG or PNG.
 
If you are animating, highlight your mask layer and go to > adjust > add/remove noise > add noise.  Apply noise with the following settings:
 
Random and Monochrome checked
Value 20
 
Copy merged and open up animation shop.  Paste as a new animation in AS. 
 
Back to Paint Shop Pro.  Go to edit > undo noise.  Apply noise again to the mask layer but change the value to 30.  Copy merged and paste after frame 1 in AS.
 
Back to PSP.  Go to edit > undo noise.   Apply noise again, but change the value to 40.  Copy merged and paste after frame 2 in animation shop.
 
Back to PSP.  Go to edit undo > noise.  Apply noise again but change the value to 32.  Copy merged and paste after frame 3 in AS. 
 
 Optimize and save as gif.
