Dark Angel

This tutorial was written by me on 6 March 2009. Any similarities to other tutorials is purely coincidental.
Supplies Needed:
Tube of choice. I am using the beautiful artistry of Joseph Corsentino. I got this tube when he was still with MPT. I don't know of any place where he sells his art as tubes at the moment, so just a tube that you like instead.

Font of choice. I used Blown Away which you can get here.
Plugins:
Xero Filters - Bad Dream & Duochrome
Eycandy 4 - Gradient Glow
Xenofex 2 - Lightning

Ok! Let's get started! Open up my template. Duplicate by holding down shift + d. Close the original. Delete the credit info layer.
Highlight the feathered fill layer. Go to selections > select all. Selections > float. Selections > defloat. Open up a paper from the kit. Resize by 78%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Go to selections > invert. Hit delete on your keyboard. Don't deselect yet.
Open up the lightning photo. Resize by 75%, smartsize. Copy. On your working image, go to selections > invert. Add a new raster layer. Go to paste into selection. Deselect (CTRL+D).
Duplicate the photo layer 2 times so you have a total of 3. Hide your top photo layer. Highlight your bottom photo layer and change the blend mode to multiply. Highlight the middle photo layer and change the blend mode to overlay. Delete the gray feathered fill layer.
Highlight the deco circles layer. Select, float and defloat. Open up a paper from the kit. Resize by 80%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Selections > invert. Hit delete and deselect. Give the layer a drop shadow of H 1, V 0, Opacity 75, Blur 2.00. Delete the gray deco circles layer.
Highlight the circle layer. Select, float and defloat. Open up a paper from the kit. Resize by 78%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Selections > invert. Hit delete. Don't deselect yet.
Highlight your hidden photo layer. Unhide it and drag it above your circle heart paper layer. Hit delete. Deselect. Change the blend mode of the photo to Hard Light. Apply Xero Bad Dream with the following settings:
Give the photo a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 75, Blur 5.00.
Highlight your paper circle heart layer. Apply Gradient Glow with the following settings:
Give it a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 75, Blur 5.00. Highlight your gray circle heart layer. Grab your magic wand tool, tolerance set at 30, feather set at 0.00. Click inside the heart. Go to selections > modify > expand by 3.00.
Open up your tube. Resize as necessary, bicubic. Mirror your tube. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Position to your liking. Selections > invert. Hit delete and deselect. Change the blend mode of the tube to Luminance (Legacy). Apply Gradient Glow with the following settings:
Apply with the same settings one more time. Lower the opacity of the tube to 85.
Delete the gray heart circle layer.
Highlight the heart doodle frame layer. Select, float and defloat. Open up a paper from the kit. Resize by 78%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Selections > invert. Hit delete and deselect. Give the layer a drop shadow of H 2, V 0, Opacity 75, Blur 3.00. Delete the black heart doodle frame layer.
Open up the branch from the kit. Resize by 40%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Go to image > free rotate. Rotate left by 45.00, both boxes unchecked. Go to adjust > sharpen. Give the branch a drop shadow of H 2, V -2, Opacity 65, Blur 3.00. Position the branch in the right upper corner of the heart doodle frame (see my tag for reference). Duplicate the branch. Drag the bottom branch to right above your white background. Grab your eraser tool, size set at 30, opacity 100. Highlight your top branch layer. Erase parts of the branch so it looks as if it is intertwined with the frame. (see my tag for reference)
Duplicate each branch 1 time. Go to image > mirror. Then, image > flip. (on both branches)
Open up a butterfly from the kit. Resize by 35%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Give it a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 65, Blur 4.00. Duplicate the butterfly. Go to image > mirror. Position them on your branches.
Open up string 2 from the kit. Resize by 35%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Give it a drop shadow of H and V 1, Opacity 65, Blur 3.00. Position the string in the left upper corner of the frame. Duplicate the string. Go to image > mirror. Then, image > flip.
Open up a bow from the kit. Resize by 25%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Give it a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 65, Blur 3.00. Position the bow in the left upper corner of the frame. Duplicate the bow. Go to image > mirror. Then, image > flip.
Add any other embellishments of your choosing.
Hide your white background. Merge your visible layers together. Resize your merged layer by 90%, smartsize. Go to adjust > sharpness > unsharp mask. Apply with the following settings:
Radius - 5
Strength - 15
Clipping - 1
Highlight your white background. Open up the glitter doodle from the kit. Resize by 55%, smartsize. Go to adjust > sharpen. Apply Gradient Glow, same settings as earlier. Give the doodle a drop shadow of H -3, V 2, Opacity 65, Blur 3.00. Duplicate the doodle. Go to image > mirror. Then, image > flip. Position them as in my tag above.
Highlight your white background. Open up a paper from the kit. Don't resize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Apply the mask with the following settings:
Source Luminance
Fit to Canvas
Hide all mask.
Delete the mask from your layer palette. Answer yes to the pop up box and merge the group. Resize the mask by 95%, smartsize.
Open up your tube. Resize if necessary, bicubic. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Choose 2 colors from your tag and make them your foreground and background. Apply Xero Duochrome to your tube with the following settings:
Now apply Xero Bad Dream with the following settings:
Go to adjust > sharpness > unsharp mask. Apply with the following settings:
Radius - 5
Strength - 30
Clipping - 1
Give your tube a drop shadow of H-5, V 1, Opacity 75, Blur 5.00. Position to your liking.
Crop and resize to your liking.
Add your copyright info, watermark and text. If you are not animating, save as JPG or PNG.
If you are animating, choose a light color from your tag and make it your foreground. Choose a dark color from your tag and make it your background. Highlight the merged frame/photo layer. Apply Xenofex 2 Lightning with the following settings:
Copy merged. Open up Animation Shop. Paste as a new animation in AS.
Back to Paint Shop Pro. Go to edit > undo lightning. Apply Lightning again, same settings, but this time hit the random seed button. Copy merged. Paste after your current frame in AS.
Repeat the above steps 3 more times for a total of 5 frames.
Optimize and save as gif.
