April Showers

This tutorial was written by me on 17 March 2009. Any similarities to other tutorials is purely coincidental.
Supplies Needed:
Tube of choice. I am using the awesome artwork of Pinuptoons. I got this tube when CILM was still open. You can get his art now at CDO

Ok! Let's get started! Open up my template. Duplicate by holding shift + d. Close the original. Delete the credit info layer.
Highlight the rectangle layer. Go to selections > select all. Selections > float. Selections > defloat. Open up a paper from the kit. Resize by 90%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas as a new layer. Selections > invert. Hit delete on your keyboard. Deselect. (CTRL+D) Apply Gradient Glow with a color of choice with the following settings:
Give the layer a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 65, Blur 5.00. Delete the gray rectangle layer.
Highlight the leaves layer. Select, float and defloat. Open up a paper from the kit. Resize by 72%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Selections > invert. Hit delete and deselect. Apply Gradient Glow, same settings. Give the layer a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 50, Blur 3.00. Delete the black leaves layer.
Highlight the circle layer. Select, float and defloat. Open up a paper from the kit. Resize by 72%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Selections > invert. Hit delete and deselect. Apply Gradient Glow, same settings, 2 times. Give the layer a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 65, Blur 4.00. Delete the gray circle layer.
Highlight the big flower layer. Select, float and defloat. Open up a paper from the kit. Resize by 70%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Selections > invert. Hit delete and deselect. Grab your magic wand tool, tolerance 100, feather set at 15. Click the flower so there are marching ants around it. Go to selections > modify contract by 30. Go to adjust > brightness/contrast. Apply with brightness set to 25, contrast set to 5. Deselect. Give the layer a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 70, Blur 5.00. Delete the black flower layer.
Highlight the left flower layer. Select, float and defloat. Open up a paper from the kit. Resize by 70%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Position the paper within the selection. Selections > invert. Hit delete and deselect. Give the layer a drop shadow of H -2, V 0, Opacity 60, Blur 3.00. Delete the gray left flower layer.
Highlight the right flower layer. Select, float and defloat. Copy and paste the same paper onto your canvas. Position within the selection. Hit delete and deselect. Give the layer a drop shadow of H 2, V 0, Opacity 65, Blur 3.00. Delete the gray right flower layer.
Highlight the small flowers layer. Select, float and defloat. Open up a paper from the kit. Resize by 75%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Selections > invert. Hit delete and deselect. Give the layer a drop shadow of H and V 1, Opacity 50, Blur 2.00. Delete the gray small flowers layer.
Open up an umbrella from the kit. Resize by 25%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Go to image > free rotate. Rotate right by 17.00 degrees, both boxes unchecked. Position the umbrella to your liking on the big flower. Give it a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 45, Blur 5.00. Duplicate the umbrella. Drag the bottom layer beneath the big flower layer. Grab your eraser tool, size 40, opacity 100. Highlight your top umbrella layer. Carefully erase certain parts of the umbrella so it looks as if it is intertwined with the flower. (see my tag for reference) Duplicate both umbrella layers. Go to image > mirror. Then, image > flip on both umbrella layers.
Open up a fluffy bow of choice. Resize by 15%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Give it a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 45, Blur 5.00. Position in the center of the big flower.
Open up the brads from the kit. Resize by 9%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Give the both a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 40, Blur 5.00. Position them in the center of the right and left flowers.
Open up 2 daises from the kit. Resize one by 9%, smartsize, and the other by 6%. Copy and paste them onto your canvas. Give them both a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 50, Blur 4.00. Duplicate each one one time each for a total of 4. Position the on your leaves.
Open up a safety pin from the kit. Resize by 10%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Go to image > free rotate. Rotate right by 90, both boxes unchecked. Give it a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 50, Blur 3.00. Duplicate. Go to image > mirror. Position them to your liking.
Open up a kinked ribbon from the kit. Resize by 45%, smartsize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Go to image > free rotate. Rotate right by 45.00. Give it a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opacity 60, Blur 7.00. Duplicate. Go to image > mirror. Then, image > flip. Position them under your small flowers.
Add any other embellishments of your choosing. Hide your white background and merge your visible layers together. Resize the merged layer by 90%, bicubic.
Highlight your white background. Open up a paper from the kit. Don't resize. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Apply UF Mask 11 with the following settings:

Fit to Canvas
Hide all Mask
Delete the mask, answer yes and merge the group. Duplicate the mask. Go to image > mirror. Then image > flip. Merge the 2 mask layers together. Grab your selection tool, rectangle, feather set 7. Select inside the empty space of the mask like this :
Open up a paper from the kit. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Selections > invert. Hit delete 2 -4 times. Deselect. Merge the paper and the mask layers together. Give the merged layer a drop shadow of H and V 1, Opacity 55, Blur 2.00.
Open up your tube. Resize as necessary, bicubic. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Position to your liking. Give it a drop shadow H 6, V -2, Opacity 65, Blur 7.00.
Open up 3 tulips. Resize them by 15, 16 and 17%, smartsize. Copy and paste them onto your canvas. Give them a drop shadow of H and V 0, Opaciry 50, Blur 3.00. Duplicate 2 of them one time each. Position them to your liking. Merge the tulip layers together.
Open up the grass. Copy and paste onto your canvas. Duplicate as many times as you like. Mirror half of them. Position to your liking or see my tag for reference.
Crop and resize to your liking.
Add your copyright info, watermark and your text. If you are not animating, save as JPG of PNG.
If you are animating. Highlight your top layer. Add a new raster layer. To your new layer, apply Van der Lee Snowflakes with the following settings:
Now apply motion blur with the following settings:
Copy merged. Paste as a new animation in AS.
Back to PSP. Delete the "rain" layer. Add a new layer. To the new layer, apply snowflakes again but change random seed to 6. Apply motion blur, same settings. Copy merged. Paste after frame in AS.
In PSP, delete the rain layer. Add a new layer, and apply snowflakes, same settings except change the random seed to 7. Apply motion blur, same settings. Copy merged. Paste after frame 2 in AS.
Optimize and save as gif.
